Artisans at the Dahmen Barn was conceived to bring exposure to regional visual artists, craftspeople and performing artists through a carefully developed marketing program. Contact the Barn manager for more information.

Rent Studio Space

Studios are located on the ground floor and the second floor in the original barn, and in a small accessory building between the Barn and the highway.  The Loafing Shed addition which opened in 2016 has more studio space. Included in the rent is 24/7 access to water, sewer, garbage, heat, lights, janitorial of the common area, use of the small kitchen, use of classroom space for instruction, a web page for each resident artist where products may be for sale and promotion of the facility and its programs. Studio spaces may be shared by more than one artist. The studio must be staffed at least 8 hours each week during the open hours of the facility and the public be allowed to learn about the artist’s creative process.  We maintain a waiting list for studio space, and want to have a wide variety of mediums in the artisan center.

Teach Classes

Classes and workshops for adults and children are scheduled throughout the year, typically on weekend days.  The instructor designs the class — topic, duration, start and stop times, minimum and maximum number of students, age group, and the class fee the instructor requires per student.  A % is added to cover the Barn’s cost to handle registrations and set up the space, then the Barn puts the class on the website calendar and does publicity.  The instructor is responsible for clean up. A summer program for children is held each year on several consecutive Thursdays from 9 am to 4 pm.  There are three different topics each day - a creative experience in the clay studio, a culinary arts class and a fun art project.

Special Events

Several special events are held each year at the Barn:

  • An art demonstration day in April where a theme is chosen and visiting artists are invited to demonstrate what they do.  There is no charge to the demonstrators to participate and the demonstrators may sell their products that day or promote classes they teach.
  • A fundraising event in the summer where artists may donate items for live and silent auctions which raise money for general operations at the Barn.
  • A holiday gift gala where artists pay a fee for a 6’ table for the day and sell their creations. The goal is to have a wide variety of mediums with unique gift items for women, men and children.  New participants are reviewed for quality and uniqueness of their work.  Items must be designed and constructed by the participating artists and no items from patterns are allowed.
