Woman’s Work is a set of 3 pieces, mixed media abstract collage (this link to Pinterest will open in a new tab). Painted tissue paper, book papers, black construction paper, and security envelopes. I used red crayon as well as acrylic markers directly on the pieces. The substrate is cold cereal box cardboard.
my process for Woman’s Work
The center messages of these pieces are pages I pulled physically from a small book of quotes from famous women. I found the book at a 2nd hand store. The quotes are from Lady Nancy Astor, Lilly Tomlin, and Helen Keller. Each piece is 4.5″ x 4.5″ inches square. I used the inside of security envelopes for texture and to give each quote a bit of a frame. The black and white elements give contrast and movement to the work when all three pieces are hung together. The red sets it all off. Are we burning it all down?
I don’t usually use straight forward, readable text in my work, so this is a fun departure for me. My abstract collage work is usually based more on trying to evoke a feeling. For instance Dark Mood (this link will open in this same tab) is an unframed collage piece that is a good example of what I mean.
This a set of 3, sold as one piece. These are unframed. Unframed art is easy to ship (light weight and nothing to break) and you can frame as you like. Or, if visiting the Barn in person, Julie is happy to help you pick out a custom frame to your liking.
