✩ Gilded Rubble (3)

Description

Gilded Rubble 3 is part of a series of 3 mixed media abstract painting on brown kraft paper, applied to 5″ x 7″ canvas covered art panels. Acrylic paint, markers, metallic ink, water soluble graphite, and gesso.

my process for Gilded Rubble 3

This is the third in a series of three 5″ x 7″ mixed media paintings. My idea is to combine the notion of something valuable or beautiful (gilded, meaning coated in gold) with something broken or ruined (rubble, like debris from a destroyed building), often metaphorically describing hidden worth in decay or the beauty of repairing something shattered, as seen in the Japanese art of Kintsugi (this link will open in a new window), where broken pottery is mended with gold. It suggests finding elegance in ruin, like gold veins in broken stone or a wealthy life masking inner struggles. Will we rebuild what is broken?

Check out Gilded Rubble 2, the second in this series of abstract paintings in this same color palette and theme.
